Every year the holidays come around and every year you do the same thing. While it’s an enjoyable time with friends and family, you may find yourself wondering what it would be like to spend the holidays somewhere else. Why not find out?
A visit to Puerto Vallarta doesn’t have to be put off for another time. There are plenty of fun and enjoyable things to do in the area while staying at a luxury vacation rental in Mexico. Whether you visit with family or friends or spend some time vacationing on your own, you can be sure that you’ll have a great time celebrating while in one of the most beautiful places in the country.
Following are some Mexican traditions for the holidays that you may want to adopt as your own while spending the holidays in Puerto Vallarta:
- Tamales, tamales, tamales. If you love tamales, then you’re in luck. Christmas time in Mexico means that you will have the opportunity to enjoy as many tamales as you’d like. Posadas are parties that happen throughout the month of December and as you make friends in the area, you’ll be sure to be invited to one. There, you will enjoy as many tamales as you’d like, as well as ponche, which is a delectable concoction of fruits, cinnamon, and sugar cane. It is simply delightful.
- If you choose to have a holiday meal to celebrate, you may be interested to find that Mexicans have their Christmas dinner on the night of Christmas Eve. While families often serve turkey as they do in the U.S., there are other typical dishes served for this special meal. From Bacalao to Romeritos – a kind of sprouts prepared with mole, potatoes and shrimps-, a Mexican Christmas dinner is slightly different than what you may be accustomed to. But, trust us, it is just as delicious.
- Families do open gifts on the 25th here, but be aware that they also open gifts on the Three Kings Day which is January 6th. If you’re staying at a vacation rental in Puerto Vallarta during the holidays and your little ones catch onto things quickly, you may want to spread out the sharing of gifts to ensure that they get to participate in all the Mexican holidays.
